While organised protests are plannig across the country for legalising marinjuana, I don't know the

importance of this topic. Eventhough this one is worth discussing. According to Narcotic Drugs and

Psychotropic substances act of 1985, production, manufaction, cultivation, posession, selling,

purchasing and consuption of any narcotic or psychotropic substance is prohibited.

But the sad part is Marijuana cannot be vanished from India. Because it is a part of Indian culutre

and it is the cheapest drug avaliable indeed it is cheapest in India. So the danger would be here

forever. Eventhough Indians have been using Marijuana since 2000 BC the reason why it is illegal is,

Marijuana is the gateway to other drugs.

We have already read many articles about the comparison between tobacco and marijuana. And

evidently tobacco has more carcinogens than marijuana. Still cigarattes are not banned in India.

Cigarattes and alocohol are  some of the products that have highest tax rate. And there is a lot of

people are working in this sector. India is one of the country to have most unemployment rate.

So they don't want to increase the count.

But at the same time, a profession that affects the entire population in a negative sense cannot be

promoted. Then criminilasm and prostitution should be considered as a profession and those

who cultivates marijuana should be considered as farmers.

They say Marijuana is the gateway to drugs. But actually nobody has started to smoke marijuana

without having an experience with tobacco. Tobacco is as dangerous as Marijuana since it is cheap,

easily avalibale and it is carcinogenic. While the firms are acting like protecting the farmers and

workers, MNCs are making billions in shadow. With a tax rate of 9% to 40 %, the goverment is

killing people for money.

It is time to rethink. More than 1 billion die per year due to tobacco. India is home for 12% of

the world's smokers. And according to 2002 WHO estimate, 30% of adult males in India smoke.

Is this figures seem dangerous? We are making a generation with diseases. It's time to act.

There is no religious or cultural background for tobacco in India. Then why would we suffer this?

A country which gives important to values rather than money should not do this.

Sadly and most importantly 18 years is not the measuring entity to smoke.
